Guatemala, Heart of the Mayan World, has been recognised as one of the 19 multidiverse countries in the planet, which means that it belongs to a top group of nations that hold high biodiversity rates. Altogether, these countries keep about 70% of the Planet's biodiversity, being this less than 13% of the Earth's surface. It has more than 10,300 plant species (15% endemic to the country), about 650 fish species, more than 190 mammal species, 200 reptiles and amphibians species and approximately 720 bird species.
