Birding Discovery Day Spurn Migrants Yorkshire, England
This full-day Yorkshire Birding discovery is a relaxed-paced trip available on request where you can expect to see around 50 species of bird, including some rarer migrants and vagrants. As a client, you will be able to explore Spurn Bird Observatory with an expert guide as part of a small group!
Spurn is one of the best bird observatories in the UK for witnessing the spectacle of bird migration. The unique, narrow hook of Spurn Point funnels birds through the narrow peninsular concentrating numbers of birds in a small area.
It is a great place to see big numbers of common migrants from Scandinavia: wildfowl, waders, terns, and thrushes. It is also one of the top sites in the UK for rare and scarce birds. Over the last five years, our YCN trips to Spurn have encountered Long-billed Dowitcher, Masked Shrike, Great Grey Shrike, Olive-backed Pipit, and Siberian Accentor!
As well as migrating birds, the vast Humber Estuary is home in autumn and winter hundreds of thousands of waders such as Red Knot, Bar-tailed Godwit, Eurasian Curlew, and Grey Plover. These huge flocks result in impressive murmurations over the mudflats and saltmarshes.
This one-day tour is designed for anyone, from beginners to the more experienced, who wish to join an enthusiastic small group tour where they will feel part of a team.
