Birding Discovery Day - Spurn Observatory in North Yorkshire, England
Join us on an exciting, full-day Birding Discovery Day at one of the best bird observatories in the entire United Kingdom - here in Yorkshire!
Spurn’s unique combination of geography, habitat and location combine to attract, 'funnel' and concentrate migratory birds in a small, bird-rich area. It’s the stuff of dreams!
You're literally surrounded by productive habitats, teaming with birds, from tiny Goldcrests and Yellow-browed Warblers to breath-taking, vocal flocks of Whooper Swans and arctic geese. From squadrons of Scandinavian Redwings, Fieldfares and Bramblings to Long-eared and Short-eared Owls arriving off the North Sea. And in Spring there's nowhere like Spurn for continental 'overshoots', including Bee-eaters, Golden Orioles and even rare swifts...
But that’s not all! There are literally hundreds of thousands of shorebirds such as Red Knot, Bar-tailed Godwit, Eurasian Curlew and Grey Plover (to name a few). Masses of wading birds right by us on the Humber Estuary, plus you may even see some real rarities such as Siberian Accentor, Two-barred Warbler, Masked Shrike, Dusky Warbler, Long-billed Dowitcher and many more!
If that’s not enough, you may spot Merlins, Peregrines and Harriers patrolling the area for lunch too!
One thing is for sure, you’ll be in the thick of the action! We have many contacts and expert guides who know where to go so you’ll get the best possible experience.
Our small group sizes (5 guests plus guide) mean you’ll have ample opportunity to learn about bird species, take photographs and travel at a more leisurely pace. We welcome anyone from beginners to the more experienced, which when in a small group, feels like you’re part of a team.
These are incredible days not to be missed!
