Winter Birding Tour in Norfolk

There’s nowhere better to be in February than on the North Norfolk coast. This beautiful stretch of unspoiled coastline holds year-round fascination for birdwatchers and we will enjoy resident birds along with wintering wildfowl, waders and raptors. We hope to see such charismatic species as Avocet, Bittern, Bearded Tit, Marsh Harriers, Barn Owl and Dartford Warbler, as well as Common Crane, Snow Bunting and Shore Lark and any other special birds that may be in the area. Expect to see around 120 species during our stay in this magical part of the world.

Day 1
Day 1 - Arrival | Birding at RSPB Titchwell

The tour starts on Saturday afternoon at RSPB Titchwell on the North Norfolk coast where we meet the group. We spend the afternoon birding at the superb reserve of RSPB Titchwell, seeing masses of birds. We will respond to the latest bird news for any scarce and rare birds in the area.

Overnight in our comfortable hotel on the North Norfolk coast close to the marshes teeming with birds.

Day 2
Day 2 - Exploring the North Norfolk Coast

Being based so close to the best birdwatching locations will give us plenty of time to explore the unspoiled coastline of North Norfolk. Our exact itinerary will be governed by the weather and latest bird news. During our time in the area we will explore the best birding sites at RSPB Titchwell, Cley NWT and Holkham NNR and respond to bird news as it comes in. We will also be keeping our eyes peeled for those special local mammal residents including four species of deer, common seals and brown hares. Overnight in our comfortable hotel on the North Norfolk coast.

Day 3

Day 6
Day 6 - Morning's Birdwatching - Departure

After some pre-breakfast birding, we spend the rest of the morning mopping up any species we may have missed before saying goodbye to the North Norfolk coast after lunch.

During our stay we will be looking for:

Slavonian Grebe, Fulmar, Bittern, Bewick’s Swan, Whooper Swan, Pink-footed Goose, Eurasian White-fronted Goose, Barnacle Goose, dark bellied Brent Goose, Egyptian Goose, Red-crested Pochard, Marsh Harrier, Hen Harrier, Rough-legged Buzzard, Merlin, Peregrine, Red-legged Partridge, Grey Partridge, Water Rail, Common Crane, Avocet, Jack Snipe, Woodcock, Spotted Redshank, Mediterranean Gull, Barn Owl, Short-eared Owl, Kingfisher, Shore Lark, Cetti’s Warbler, Dartford Warbler, Bearded Tit, Brambling, Twite, Snow Bunting, Corn Bunting and any other scarce or rare birds that we may encounter.

What sort of accommodation do you offer?

We stay in an extremely comfortable country hotel close to the best birdwatching sites. All rooms are ensuite with king-size beds with Egyptian cotton bedlinen and deluxe oversize bath towels, just what you need to relax at the end of an exciting day’s birdwatching. The hotel offers a well-stocked bar, and offers delicious meals based on the very best local produce. Special dietary requirements are catered for, please just let us know in advance

What are your group sizes?

We only take a maximum of six guests on our tours to ensure everyone has the best possible experience on our trip. We always take our time to enjoy every bird we encounter and allow time for taking photographs too. Our Birdwatching Trips are perfect for everyone, whether you have just discovered the joy of birdwatching or have been birdwatching for many years. Sorry but we are not able to take guests under the age of 16 on our tours.

Do you offer a single supplement option?

We are happy to arrange a single-occupancy room for the tour, though we are sorry but we do have to pass on the single room supplement we are charged by the hotel.

Do you need a minimum fitness level to join this tour?

This tour is graded as Easy. Walks are on trails and footpaths which may have an uneven surface. You should be able to walk unaided at least a mile on rough or uneven surfaces. Please contact us if you have any concerns over your participation.

How do you support local communities during this tour?

We make a donation to the Norfolk Wildlife Trust for every guest joining us on the tour so you know that you are supporting the conservation of the very birds you are enjoying. We also make a point of visiting local cafes for lunch during our tour to support the local community

Can you book accommodation for us prior to the start of the tour?

We are happy to reserve additional nights’ accommodation at the hotel before and/or after the Birding tour.

How do I pay, and what are the terms of the tour?

We ask for a 20% deposit upon booking with the balance of payment due by 70 days before travel. Please ask if you would like us to send you our Terms and Conditions.

What should I pack for this tour?

We send all our guests our Travel Tips and Packing Suggestions upon booking on the tour to help them prepare and pack for the tour.

Can you cater for special dietary requirements?

Please let us know of any special dietary requirements on your booking form; our hotel is very experienced in meeting specific requirements.

Should we bring credit cards and/or cash?

This tour is fully inclusive. However, you will need to pay for any extras at the hotel or during the tour. The hotel takes most credit/debit cards but a small amount of cash may be useful in case you want to buy any souvenirs during the trip.
