West Montevideo Birdwatching Trip

Birding around banks of Río de la Plata, these are coastal milieus with small lagoons, rural areas flecked with patches of woodlands. Emphasis is being placed in Curve-billed Reedhaunter, wetland pampas’ endemic with a population near Montevideo.

Duration: 08:00 to 16:00 (depends on customer schedule)

Departure from Montevideo city / Arrival at Montevideo city. We will visit an area close to the coastline of Rio de la Plata, 60 kilometres from Montevideo: Santiago Vázquez Wetlands, Playa Peninos, Playa Pascual, Colonia Wilson and farm areas around. The environment includes: Coast, small lagoons and rural areas with mixed native and modifies forest.

Wet Lands: Lagoons and Reed-beds.

White-faced Ibis, Whistling Heron, Brazilian Duck, Silver Teal, Long-winged Harrier, Giant Wood-Rail, Plumbeous Rail, White-winged Coot, Wattled Jacana, Spectacled Tyrant, Long-tailed Reed-Finch, Great Pampa-Finch, Black-and-rufous Warbling-Finch, Yellow-winged Blackbird. Rural area with native forest.

Spotted Tinamou, Striated Heron, Bay-winged Hawk, White-tailed Kite, Chimango Caracara, American Kestrel, White-tipped Dove, Guira Cuckoo, Burrowing Owl, Glittering-bellied Emerald, Gilded Sapphire, White-throated Hummingbird, Green Kingfisher, Amazon Kingfisher, Ringed Kingfisher, Green-barred Woodpecker, Field Flicker, Firewood-Gatherer, Freckle-breasted Thornbird, Rufous-capped Antshrike, Chicli Spinetail, White Monjita, Grey Monjita, White-crested Tyrannulet, Rufous-bellied Thrush, Creamy-bellied Thrush, Rufous-browed Peppershrike, Tropical Parula, Bay-winged Cowbird.

Coast

Cocoi Heron, Brown-hooded Gull, American Oystercatcher, South American Stilt, Snowy-crowned Tern, Black Skimmer, Yellow-billed Pintail, Collared Plover, Lesser Yellowlegs and others species of shorebirds (southern or northern) depending of the season.
