This available-on-request, moderately paced 12-day Ultimate Rwanda Safari Tour brings you the best of Rwandan wildlife and the country's cultural attractions. The trip takes you to three of Rwanda's major National Parks - Volcanoes,  Nyungwe and Akagera - in search of Mountain Gorillas, Golden Monkeys and Chimpanzees as well as a host of savannah animals and some amazing birdlife. And you will visit the city of Kigali and its museums and theatrical offerings.

In Akagera National Park you will take part in a game drive in search of Masai Giraffes and African Bush Elephants among many other amazing animals. There is also a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, which will give you great opportunities to observe Hippos and crocodiles and a number of bird species such as the Grey Crowned Crane and the African Fish Eagle.

In the jungles of Nyungwe, one of the largest areas of dense tropical rainforest in this part of Africa, your ultimate Rwanda safari tour will lead you into the world of the Chimpanzee and an understanding of the complex lives of these familiar primates. This is also where you can experience a breathtaking view of the forest from a canopy walkway. Get close to some of the jungle birds and have the opportunity to take some stunning photographs.

Day 1
Day 1 - Airport Transfer to Hotel

Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will go through custom and immigration, and you will be met by our company guide who will warmly welcome you to the Land of a thousand hills that Rwanda is know of, an later drive to your booked hotel accommodation for dinner and overnight stay at Hotel des Mille Collines, a beautiful 4 star hotel, with a great history of Rwandan genocide, where the film of Rwandan genocide was acted, as it played a great part in the Rwandan genocide, formerly known as “Hotel Rwanda”..

Day 2
Day 2 - Transfer to Akagera National Park from Kigali. Travel time +2.3hrs

Today, after your relaxed morning breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked by your safari guide and leave for Akagera national park, the journey to Akagera national park takes about 2.3 hours depending on the stopovers along the way, with the beautiful un winding landscape en route to the park, feel free to ask the guide for stopovers to capture some photos.

On arrival at the park, we shall register at the park offices and later proceed to our accommodation with a short game drive and check in for lunch. After lunch, we head for a boat trip on Lake Ihema watch Hippos and crocodiles in the water or by the shores and meet the buffaloes and elephants wallowing by the water banks. Later return to the lodge for dinner and evening stay at Akagera Game Safari Lodge, a Mid - range lodge, located in the southern part of the park, with view of the mark, making your access for game drive quite easy.

Day 3
Day 3 - Full day Game drive

After an early morning breakfast at 6:00 am and leave for an early morning game drive in Akagera national park to catch up with late hunters and early risers. We will be searching for the big mammals like Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes, several Antelope species, and recently the re-introduced Lions and Rhinos.

The park is a varied habitat for wildlife and a number bird species with over 500 bird species in the park making it a birding paradise. You will later have a picnic lunch, as you proceed with your game drive in the northern part of the park, where a number of wildlife can be sighted. In the late evening, you will drive back to your lodge for a hot dinner and evening stay at Akagera Game Safari Lodge.

Day 4
Day 4 - Transfer Back to Kigali

You will leave the lodge with after a relaxed breakfast, head for a brief game drive before we drive back to Kigali and you will visit the Kigali Genocide Museum in the afternoon. This is where over 250000 victims of Rwandan genocide of 1994 were buried, you will watch short video clips and later visit the grave yards as well, you will as well do a brief city tour, and visit to the local markets if time permits and drive back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay at Hotel des Mille Collines.

Day 5
Day 5 - Transfer to Nyungwe National Park | Travel time +5 hours

Early morning enjoy your buffer breakfast and checkout of the hotel and drive heading to the western province, on your way visit the Royal Palace Museum and Ethnographic Museum in Southern Province, this will give you a great history of traditional ways of living among Rwandans and their past way of leadership of Kingship with an en route lunch.

You will reach in the afternoon at Nyungwe national park and spend the afternoon at your leisure. Dinner and overnight at Emeraude Kivu Resort, amid – range facility, located adjacent to Lake Kivu, with a beautiful stunning view of this great lake.

Day 6
Day 6 - Chimpanzee Tracking & Canopy

Today, after your early morning cap of African coffee, you will leave your hotel to experience the natural forest of Nyungwe well known for having 13 species of primates, and transferred to the park for briefing and chimpanzee trekking. You will be entitled to one hour on finding the chimpanzees.

After doing the chimpanzee trek, head for lunch before heading for a canopy walk. This 70 meters suspended metallic bridge will give you a great overview of Nyungwe forest and on a luck day spot one or two more primates in the forest as you take a walk on this bridge and later return in the afternoon for dinner and overnight stay at Emeraude Kivu Resort.

Day 7
Day 7 - Transfer to Lake Kivu for Kayaking or Boat Trip

Begin your day with a warm delightful breakfast, and later transfer to Lake Kivu for an afternoon sunset Kayaking or boat trip. You will have roughly 2 hours exploring the beauty of this wonderful lava lake and later return to your hotel for relaxation. Dinner will be served in time as you later catch up with the night at Paradise Kivu, a mid-range hotel facility, with great African touch design, eco–friendly, and charming rooms, with faces a stunning view of Lake Kivu, you can see the city light of Goma in Congo from a distance, at your lodge.

Day 8
Day 8 - Transfer to Musanze

After a delightful breakfast in the morning, you will drive to Kinigi. Kinigi is a tourism area near Volcanoes National Park, where most of the lodges are located since there are no lodges inside of the park. You will spend the evening at your leisure. Dinner and overnight stay at Le Bamboo Gorilla lodge (midrange), located a few driving distance from the park headquarters’, covered with lashed of the bamboo trees, hence birth of the lodge names. The lodge is eco –friendly with cottage rooms.

Day 9
Day 9 - Gorilla Trekking & Cultural visit

Early morning cup of coffee, then prepare for the gorilla trekking briefing from the park headquarters and thereafter, you will enter the jungle with your packed lunch to search the shy mountain gorillas and enjoy their lifestyle in their real home.

After meeting the gorillas, you can sit around these great apes for a whole hour watching their social life as you take pictures. On a gorilla safari, a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as walking shoes, packed food and mineral water, insect repellent, sunscreen and hut. The gorilla tracking experience takes half or a whole day depending on the movements of these primates.

After this gorilla tracking experience, you will return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, ready for a village foot safari, to explore the indigenous local life with a taste of the traditional performance at Iby Iwacu cultural centre. Dinner and overnight at Le Bamboo Gorilla lodge (midrange).

Day 10
Day 10 - Hike Mount Bisoke

Today, after having your morning breakfast, we go hiking, to reach the summit of Mount Bisoke, one of the Virunga volcanoes, which is thrilling and rewarding, as it gives you great view of Virunga mountain ranges as you explore flora and fauna along the way. The hike takes rought 6 – 8 hours returns, depending on your hiking ability. You will as well have a chance to observe the stunning view of the crater on top of the volcano. You will later descend back. Diner and overnight at Le Bamboo Gorilla lodge (midrange).

Day 11
Day 11 - Golden monkey & Transfer to Kigali | Travel time + 2 hrs

Today after you warm early morning breakfast, you will be picked by our safari driver guide who will transfer you to the park headquarters for briefing and start off you day golden monkey trekking. Just like the gorilla trekking experience, the same applies to golden monkey trekking though no so hectic like gorilla trekking. You will later return to the lodge for lunch and later transfer to Kigali. You can spend your evening at the pool side as you enjoy a relaxed moment, as you finalize with your visit to Rwanda. Diner and overnight at Hotel des Mille Collines (midrange).

Day 12
Day 12 - Transfer to The Airport

After getting done with your relaxed morning breakfast, depending on your flight time, you will be transferred to the airport to catch up with your onward flight. End of service!

The tour is flexible, and in case you would wish to book a private separate tour for your family, you’re welcome. The maximum of people per vehicle if 6, however, our safari car can accommodate up to 7 people, with private window seats.

Do you arrange airport pick up/drop off?

Yes, our safari guides, will welcome you from the airport, just upon arrival, and transfer you to your booked accommodation, with is rough 15 minutes’ drive away.

Do you include internal flight costs?

The internal and domestic flights are not included on the tour, however, on request, we can include the flights at an additional cost.

No, we do not change the tour, however, we are flexible for a tailor safari request, and we can still customize the tour, to your interest and budget.

Do you include meals?

Yes, all meals are included. The tour is based on a full board basis.

Do you need a minimum fitness level to join this tour?

Yes, you will need to have some level of fitness, as there is hiking and clipping of steeply valleys and hills. We shall share with your tour guide towards your trip, to help you prepare well for the trip.
