Clay Lick Macaws Birdwatching Tour

This five days and four nights excursion are the best to know the biggest clay lick for Macaws inside the National Reserve of Tambopata, this place is where hundreds of the most beautiful and big macaws gather to socialize and to feed on the red clay in this cliff of 200 meters wide. The purpose of feeding on this clay is to clean their guts and supplement their diet with minerals such as the magnesium or the aluminium hydroxide in order to neutralize the toxins they intake with the unripe fruit or seeds they are used to feed on.

At the clay lick, you must be very attentive due to the high possibility of spotting the great Jaguar (Pantera onca) or a Puma. They're also the chance to spot other amazing species such as the red brocket deer or howler monkeys that may also come to the clay lick.

In this tour you will also enjoy the visit to the breathtaking Tres Chimbadas Lake, to watch a family of Giant River Otters, and amazing bird species such as the Cocoi Heron, the hoatzins, the red-breasted king Fischer, the Agami Heron, the Anhinga or snakebird, Blue and yellow macaws or Scarlett macaws. The hike inside the forest before arriving at the lake offers great chances of spotting wildlife such as trogons or tamandua bears.

The night excursion in a jungle path to spot nocturnal wildlife such as musmuki monkeys, frogs, toads, tarantulas, false scorpion spiders, and other amazing species.

Visiting our 46 meters high tower to watch the stunning beauty of the jungle canopy and the chance to spot bird species such as the king vulture, the ornate eagle, red and green macaws and even red howler monkeys. The landscape at this height gets really astonishing colours at dusk.
