Bird Watching Tour in the Tambopata National Reserve
This moderately paced 7-day Tambopata Birding Tour is available on request and the adventure starts the moment you arrive at the airport in southern Peru. Our expert bird guide will take advantage of every opportunity along the way to settling in to your accommodation to show you any species he can find that you have expressed an interest in seeing.
Tambopata birdwatching takes you to every available Amazon habitat to take in as many specialist species and endemics as possible. The lodge at Explorer’s Inn alone has a recorded 620 species to savour.Around the lodge can be found bamboo forest, primary rainforest, high-altitude woodland and riverine areas. Some of the species to add to the list include Striated Antbird, Pectoral Sparrow, Rufous-Fronted Antthrush, Pale-Winged Trumpeter, Blue-Crowned Motmot and Musician Wren.
Along the Explorer’s Inn trails known as 'Main' and 'Tapir' you will walk approximately 6km in total, but in that short distance you will find the largest variety of species. Hopefully you will also see some mixed flocks which could include Semicollared Puffbird, White-Winged Shrike-Tanager, Red-Crowned Ant-Tanager, Pavonine Quetzal, Round-Tailed Manakin, Scale-Backed Antbird, White-Throated Antbird, Blue-Crowned Trogon, Curl-Crested Aracari and Golden-Collared Toucanet. These and many others can be expected during this Tambopata birding trip.
For aquatic birds we will visit lakes and lagoons such as Tres Chimbadas Lake and the Laguna Chica. This could afford views of the Blue-throated Piping Guan, Black-Spotted Bare-Eye, Pale-Legged Horner, Band-Tailed Manakin, Fiery-Capped Manakin, Cream-Collared Woodpecker as well as many other species.
Of course, we cannot miss out the Explorer’s Inn Macaw Clay Lick and a trip to the top of one of the highest towers in the Amazon to see the unique species that inhabit the canopy close up.
Tambopata Birding Tour highlights include:
- A visit to the spectacular Tres Chimbadas Lake for water birds and to observe a family of Giant Otters
- The Explorer’s Inn Clay Lick for multiple varieties of macaws and other parrots.
- White Caymans on the Tambopata River at night
