Morocco and Gibraltar Combined Birdwatching Trip
This 1-day Straits and Morocco Birding Trip, Tarifa can be extended to cover more days if requested. It is leisurely paced and can be booked all year round, although if you choose spring or autumn you will be treated to the sight of thousands of migrating birds as you, and they, pass across the Straits of Gibraltar.
The Straits is the narrowest point between Europe and Africa and only 14km (8.7 miles) of Mediterranean separate both continents. For that reason it is easy to cross from one country to the other by a fast ferry in just 45 minutes and spend a day in Morocco birding.
"Atlas mountains and desert birding for a week in January with the very personable Manuel Morales. Excellent guiding and a great birding experience in spectacular scenery." - Janet Brodie
This is a great opportunity to add some interesting African birds to your life list. Species such as Black-crowned Tchagra, Barbary Partridge, African Blue Tit, Common Bulbul, Brown-throated Martin and African Magpie. This day of birding in Morocco is a perfect introduction to the birds of north Africa.
Depending on the number of days you choose to spend in Morocco, it will be possible to visit some of these hotspots: Jbel Moussa mountain, Merja Zerga, famous among birders as the best place in Morocco to watch the scarce Marsh Owl, the salt pans close to Larache and Sidi Bourhaba Lake.
The Straits and Morocco Birding Trip highlights include:
- Whales and dolphins and exciting seabirds as you cross the Straits of Gibraltar
- The opportunity to extend your trip and really explore the hotspots of Morocco birding
