Southern Portugal Birding Tour - 8 Days

Southern Portugal Birding Tour

Southern Portugal Migration Birdwatching Tour

An 8-day Southern Portugal birding tour with a professional Birding and Photography Guide for group sizes from 2 to 20 people, including Two Full Day Trips to the Plains of the Alentejo and the Sagres Peninsula targeting steppe species such as Great and Little Bustards as well as raptors including Spanish Imperial, Golden, Short-toed and Booted Eagles.

Based in the southern half of the country the two Full Day Trips take you, with your fully licensed and insured professional Guide and photographer, to diametrically opposed habitats, firstly to the Plains of the Alentejo for the steppe species, followed by Foia and the Sagres Peninsula for high mountain species mixed with the rocky cliffs and sea-watching of Europe’s most south-westerly point.

Surrounding your accommodation, which is aptly named “Paradise in Portugal", there is subsistence farmland, Cork Oak Forests, various Hides and valleys, streams and rivers.

The venue itself is a 5* Tripadvisor-rated EcoLodge, so your carbon footprint is as low as it gets. It overlooks a pristine mosquito-free lake set in the middle of nowhere with no nearby road, so there’s no noise or light pollution. The large surrounding garden hosts a wealth of species, notably nesting Eurasian Golden Orioles and several pairs of Common Nightingales amongst others.

This is a one-stop accommodation break, so there’s no tedious packing and unpacking every other day, allowing for more time spent doing what you love to do – getting to grips with unspoiled Nature and really enjoying yourself.

The food is excellent, home-cooked and themed on “International Home Cooking”. It’s not from packets and there are lashings of it, backed by an extensive Portuguese Wine List with an Ornithological theme.

On the days out you’ll be spoiled for choice as to what are the best birds, but highlights will definitely include Bustards, Raptors, Shorebirds, Cliff & Farmland species!

Full Board, pick up and drop off from/to Faro airport and all transfers inside Portugal.

Pricing based on twin/double occupancy.  Single supplement available from €330 on request.

  1. Amazing and unique “Home from Home”
    Billie O'Connor16 Oct 2019

My partner Steve and I have just returned from five amazing days in this place. We flew into Faro, and it was an easy 90 min drive up to Paradise in Portugal. The “resort” (feels like the wrong word as it’s not at all commercial) is down a long private road that opens up onto a beautiful lake view. We had Kingfisher room and the view from it was incredible. Daniela and Frank are so welcoming it feels like an amazing “home from home”, with breakfast, lunch and dinner all on offer. I advise you take it! The food is all so beautifully home cooked, and the communal dining makes the evening fun and interesting. The dining room also has a large window with a lake view. Wines on offer are all good and reasonably priced. I wouldn’t advise it for young children unless they particularly like quiet and nature (it’s not an adults only venue but it’s greater more towards relaxation and peaceful enjoyment during the day). For those who love birds and wildlife there’s an array of trips on offer - you don’t have to, and I’m not an avid “birder” but ended up doing two and loved them both. Highly recommend and we’ll be back for a long weekend next June!
