Peruvian Amazon Wildlife Jungle Tour - 7 Days

Peruvian Amazon Wildlife Jungle Tour

Mystical Amazonia Jungle Wildlife Tour

A 7-day Peruvian Amazon Wildlife Jungle Tour designed to give you a good insight into the many specialist plants of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest, and introduce you to the fascinating animals that inhabit the region of Tambopata National Reserve in southern Peru. The trip is leisurely paced and available on request and the price includes lodgings, meals and the guidance of a qualified botanist.

During the tour you will hike in the forest around the Tambopata River in southern Peru with the object of identifying plants and trees. The Ayahuasca vine you find will later be used in a traditional ceremony that you can attend if you choose.

The Dead Rope plant, known as Ayahuasca, is seen as the link between the world of the living and the dead. It has been used for centuries by natives of the Peruvian Amazon to heal not only the body but the spirit of people in pain. It is said to restore balance in life. The traditional Ayahuasca ritual ceremony take place at night and is alleged to transport the participants on an astral journey to find themselves with the help of the power of the Dead Rope Vine.

It is an interesting ceremony to observe, with a Shaman introducing the ritual with songs. Partaking of the juice of the vine is optional but be aware that it can be quite an intense experience for those who take part, lasting for three or more hours, and can lead to some unpleasant physical effects as well as hallucinations.

Peruvian Amazon wildlife is the main focus of the tour, however, and one of the many amazing places you will visit is Cocococha Lake. There, you can watch a family of Giant River Otters and tick several bird species off your list, including the rare Hoatzin, or Stinky bird, the Hornet Screamer, the Cocoi Heron and the Puma Heron. There will also be the chance to spot Black Caymans.

A nighttime excursion on the Tambopata River is another exciting part of the tour. And jungle hikes on Explorer's Inn's comprehensive 24km trail system will take you on an exploration of the richness of the Amazon wildlife in this pristine Peruvian rainforest.

Peruvian Amazon Wildlife Jungle Tour highlights include:

  • A visit to the Explorer’s Inn Clay Lick to spot many macaw and other parrot species
  • White Caymans on the Tambopata River at night
  • Walks through pristine Amazon rainforest to learn about native flora and fauna
  • An optional chance to take part in a traditional Amazon ritual

If you prefer a shorter trip to encounter Peruvian Amazon wildlife there are plenty of other great tours operated by Explorer's Inn. Take a look at the Giant Otters & Macaws Tour.

  1. Fantastic resort in the Amazon Jungle
    Samantha L01 Oct 2017

Our Intrepid tour brought us here. It was a fantastic adventure. Christian and Ivan, our tour guides, were fantastic. To learn more about the local flora and animals, we went on day and night hikes. Christian had an uncanny ability to recognize animals. When we were there, the lodge was evidently under new management, and they were building new rooms. We stayed in a newer lodge room, which was fantastic. The beds were quite comfortable. Rainwater showers are still chilly at the present, but hot showers are on the way. The dinner was delicious, and they took excellent care of us. If you want to kick a soccer ball around, there is a soccer pitch nearby.
