‘Just for the Birds’, NT Birding Trip, Australia

Full-Day NT Birding Trip

Enjoy our full day NT Birding Trip in and around Katherine, looking for and observing the local birdlife species. Many species are Northern Savanna 'Specialists', some common, some not. If you have preferred target species, we can spend the day structured to look for your target list. An experienced local guide will help you find the glorious Gouldian Finch and Hooded Parrot.

Local 'Savannah Guide' Mick Jerram is an experienced Birding Guide and lived in 'The Territory' for 35 years.  Having intimate knowledge of the Top End wildlife, local conditions and also an idea of the seasonal variances; Mick will be able to tailor a day out to view your intended targets and more on this NT birdwatching trip.

Most Day tours are conducted in the Katherine Region, however, Mick has an intimate knowledge of the greater region and can be available to guide you from Darwin, Victoria River, Kununurra and beyond.

As a change from your birdwatching itinerary, why not have a look at other wildlife tours on offer. Check out the Katherine River Wildlife ‘n’ Nature Tour, NT, Australia

Day 1
A nice and early start

Morning Session:

I will pick you up from your accommodation at 5:30AM (unless organised otherwise) and have arranged a nice hot cuppa to make sure that you are awake! Depending on the season we will start driving out and visiting local sites, based on bird species locations or your target species. The relative coolness of the morning, sees the birds most active and some congregate around isolated waterholes before searching for food before the tropical heat sets in.

Afternoon Session:

The hot afternoons is the best time to select sites which are shady and have some water available. It is a good time to enjoy some lunch while we then spend some time in the air-conditioned vehicle travelling to these sites. Often, this is a great time to take advantage of incidental sightings of raptors, perching or circling whilst hunting for prey.

As the sun drops, the birds do become a little more active and easier to find, so we visit sites which have an attraction of food or at least be nearby evening roosting areas. We will make the most of the lower intensity of the sun and then finish the day. I will drop you off back at your accommodation at around 6:00PM

Nocturnal Session

If you would like, we can pre-arrange a session looking for Owls and Buttonquails. We can continue this after a break for dinner. An extra cost of $100per person will apply.
