Walking Trip to Find Musk Ox and Other Norwegian Wildlife

This 7-day Musk Ox Safari in Norway is moderately paced and available on request. It is a walking safari in the Norwegian wilderness where you will explore the forest and mountain range of the Fulufjellet National Park in the east of Norway, beside the Swedish border. The Park contains Elk andMusk Ox as well as Norway's four large predators: Brown Bears, Gray Wolves, Eurasian Lynx, and Wolverines.

As for birdlife, on this Norwegian wildlife adventure there are also Golden Eagles, Hawk Owls, Capercaillies, several different grouse species, and various passerines such as pipits and Bramblings.

Getting close to nature in the Park on this Musk Ox Safari in Norway means camping, but that doesn't mean that your accommodation will be basic. You will be staying in a large walk-in tepee-style tent which is split into three rooms - two bedrooms with comfortable camping beds and a large living area. There is an outside sheltered kitchen with a wood-burning stove where all of your locally sourced meals will be cooked.

You also have home comforts such as a shower with warm water, solar panel chargers for your mobile phone and camera and chairs to relax in after a day of exploring.

From time to time we get curious mammals and birds coming to the campsite to inspect what we are doing. Birds such as the Northern Hawk Owl and Serbian Jays are both birds we find come regularly.

The focus of this Musk Ox Safari in Norway is on hiking to experience the natural world, observing its wild animals and their behaviour, but along the way you will also learn about Norwegian folklore, the Vikings and the Sami people. The tour is designed to give you a truly rounded experience of the country, its heritage and natural resources.

Also on the tour, you opt for some added extras such as horse riding, white water rafting and visiting a local Norwegian town if you wish.

Musk Ox Safari in Norway highlights include:

  • Views of some of Norway's iconic large mammals
  • Living close to nature, but in modern comfort
  • Great bird species such as Golden Eagle and Northern Hawk Owl

Why book with Tistel Willdife Guiding

Tistel Wildlife Guiding offers a budget unique camping safari in Norway with a South African fell, As I was trained in South Africa, I can lead a tour unlike many other guides in Europe. You will also get the chance to see some of the most impressive wildlife to be found in Europe and camp in the middle of the Norwegian wilderness

Does it get dark at night?

We will be near the middle of Norway next to the Swedish border but even here it does not really get dark at night and when it does start to get darker at night you can still see well even without a torch.

Is it Cold?

The days can be warm up to 20 -30 c but nights can go into the minuses so I would take thermals to sleep in and i always bring extra blankets and hot water bottles just in case people would like them.

Do I need to be really fit for this tour?

for this tour all you really need is a general level of fitness. If you are worried about your fitness level I can fit the tour around your needs.

What are the midges like?

The midges are not as bad as some countries such as Scotland but I always take some midge repellent coils with me just in case.
