Llobregat Delta Birdwatching Trip
One day Llobregat Delta birding trip to this tiny wetland immediately South of Barcelona, which is simply amazing! From the end of August to June provides an extremely rich variety of birds including Moustached Warbler, Little Bittern, Western Swamphen and Ortolan Bunting. In spring, day lists of over 100 bird species are effortlessly achieved.
But please don't think we will just explore the natural reserves. In fact, during the day we will visit a number of locations that will vary depending on the seasons to catch up with the best of the nesting birds around (we can enjoy from Common Rock Thrush to Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, from Ortolan Bunting to Thekla Lark and Little Bittern), and the many migratory birds that use this patch of Catalan coast to rest during their migrations.

We'll explore the incredible landscapes of he Garraf Massif. Its extensive low scrubs, garrigues, pine woods and rocky slopes are home for really good birds including Pallid Swift, Bonelli's Eagle, BR Thrush, Common Rock Thrush, Dartford Warbler, Spectacled Warbler, Ortolan Bunting, Thekla Lark, Black-eared Wheatear, Woodchat Shrike, Iberian Grey Shrike, Bee-eater and Black Wheater. After exploring the hills we will enjoy marshes, lagoons and meadows in the Llobregat Delta Natural Reserve, which offers key resident species like Hoopoes, Wester Swamphens, Little Bittern, Ceti's Warbler, Penduline Tit & Iberian Green Woodpecker, summer visitors, including Squacco and Purple Herons & Audoin's Gull; and winter visitors, such as both Yelkouan and Balearic Shearwaters, Bluethroat, Moustached Warbler & Water Pipit, Despite its location (about 10 kilometres South of Barcelona) over 300 species have been recorded there. The Llobregat Delta is extreamly productive during migration, when becomes a hot-spot for waders, passerines & raptors.
The list of birds that can be enjoyed during this tour is simply amazing. Only during 2019 our day trips exploring this hotspot produced 268 species of birds!

Best birds in 2019 was a Little Swift in May, considered a rarity in Catalonia, and Red-breasted Flycatcher in October (4th for this wetland!).
Best bird in 2018 was a Olive-backed Pipit, a 1st for the wetland and 3rd for Catalonia.

May 23rd, 2019. 121 seen species including Pectoral Sandpiper & Citrine Wagtail!
August 27th, 2018. 109 seen species including Dotterel, Citrine Wagtail & Temminck’s Stint!
From April to October a good variety of butterflies can also be enjoyed and some incredible ones include Two-tailed Pasha, Spanish Festoon or Plain Tiger.

No. No mud, and not walking in swamphy areas. You can wear average sneakers or similar.
Bins if you have with you. Comfortable clothes, some water and food. There is plenty of places where you can buy food and drink during the outing, anyway. We do a coffee stop at mid morning. And don't forget your enthusiasm about birds!!
99,9% of times we go for a picnic, and quite often we do chose a wooden hide inside one of the natural reserves.
