Birdwatching Trip in Yorkshire

On our full-day Forest and River Birding trip on Yorkshire Discovery Day, we will travel around the Great Yorkshire Forest. This is a relaxed-paced trip where you can expect to see around 40 species of bird, including at least 10 forest and river specialist species. The area we will visit is one of few large landscapes in England we can truly call a forest.

Habitat networks link over 30 miles of landscape to produce a complex mosaic of ancient woodland, semi-natural woodland, mixed woodland, and commercial forest between Scarborough and Sutton Bank. We will be visiting four main forest areas: Broxa, Langdale, Dalby, and Cropton. We will also be passing through a number of picturesque, historic North Yorkshire villages.

As a client on this trip you may expect to see: Northern Goshawk, European Honey Buzzard, Tawny Owl, European Nightjar, Common Crossbill, Siskin, European Turtle Dove, Tree Pipit, Common Redstart, Pied Flycatcher, Spotted Flycatcher, Willow Warbler, Stonechat, Dipper, Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail and many more species.

On this Birdwatching trip in Yorkshire, we welcome anyone from beginners to the more experienced who, in a small group setting, will feel like part of a team and learn lots about the birds found in these forests. Using our up to the minute information from our contacts in the forest, we will tailor the trip to a combination of group requests, weather conditions and where the best birds are at the time.

We pledge to make a 10% donation to RSPB Raptor Investigations Work from the income of this trip, meaning that your booking makes a real difference for wildlife!

Richard Baines is everything you could want in a wildlife guide: knowledgeable, passionate, considerate and super-helpful. His deep understanding of ecology added greatly to our understanding of the birds, flowers and insects we were seeing. He made every effort to insure that we all saw everything and increased our own knowledge.

This was a superb few hours spent in a forest on the North Yorks moors where the nightjars appeared right on cue. Richard's knowledge shone through as did his ability to make everyone feel comfortable whether new to the hobby or an old hand. Highly recommended.

I have used YCN on several occasions spanning several years Richard Baines is a consummate professional... not only knowledgeable about birds, wildlife, crucial local knowledge but bending over backwards to match his skills to the group regardless of their skill - encouraging, interested and interesting and never patronising
