Raptor Birding and Mountain Species beyond the Ebro Delta
This Raptor Birding trip takes you out of the lowlands of the Ebro delta to nearby Els Ports Natural Park, an upland Limestone massif which climbs to well in excess of 1000m of altitude.
After an early morning start, the day begins with an unforgettable visit to Mas de Bunyol, a superbly run vulture feeding station where you will view many Griffon Vultures & possibly Egyptian Vultures (summer months) from a superbly constructed observatory. Before we leave the area, we will be checking for some of the smaller inhabitants of the pine forest like Crested Tit, Firecrest, Short-toed Treecreeper and Western Bonelli's Warbler. On the return journey to the delta, we will be looking for some of the species associated with sunny mountain slopes such as Blue Rock Thrush, Black-eared Wheatear, Woodchat Shrike, Cirl Bunting and varied Mediterranean warblers such as Orphean, Subalpine and Melodious. All the while we will have our eyes to the skies, and are sure to get great views of spectacular raptors like Short-toed, Booted & Bonelli's Eagle. We return to the delta and the tour concludes by mid to late afternoon.
