Birdwatching Trip in Northern Ebro Delta
This 1-day Ebro Delta Northern Birdwatching Trip is a leisurely paced experience available on request. You can expect to see wonderful species of birds and wildlife on this tour and you will explore all of the best birding sites in the northern section of the Ebro Delta.
We will be taking in some different habitats during an interesting and varied birding trip, and this will begin in the countryside situated at the edge of the Ebro Delta where we will be looking for popular species such as Hoopoe, European Bee-eater and Golden Oriole in scrub and woodland environments on the periphery of the wetlands.
"Al was an excellent guide for the day. He knows the area extremely well and has great knowledge of the species you are likely to encounter on your trip. A fantastic way to get to know the Ebro Delta area - highly recommended!" - Steve Clough
As the morning progresses on this Ebro Delta birdwatching adventure we will move into more classic delta habitat and spend some time at the Lo Golero marshes, a large reserve area that is teeming with wildfowl, warblers and herons and is patrolled continuously by Marsh Harriers. Adjacent to this site we have the bay of Fangar, a shallow-water marine environment that is a major attraction for waders, gulls and terns, as well as Osprey during the migration period.
As with all of our Ebro Delta birding tours, we offer our clients a choice at lunchtime. We can stop off and sample some of the delicious cuisine of the region, with mouth-watering seafood paellas being a local specialty that many are keen to sample at charming local eateries. Alternatively, we can choose to take a picnic and find suitable outdoor eating areas where we can eat and bird at the same time.
Your Ebro Delta birdwatching trip will continue in the afternoon with a slow journey through the agricultural zone as we head towards the estuary at Riumar. In the rice fields we can find a great abundance of birds including huge flocks of Glossy Ibis and other waders, probing for food in the boggy fields. The tour culminates in the vicinity of Riumar, where we can observe many different species of wildfowl from the tall observation towers overlooking El Garxal, which offer splendid vistas of the river mouth.
Ebro Delta Northern Birdwatching Trip highlights include:
- Observing the charismatic Hoopoe at close quarters
- Multiple Marsh Harriers quartering low over the reed-beds at Lo Golero
- Vast flocks of varied waders in the bay of Fangar
- Osprey fishing in the shallow waters during the migration seasons
- Hordes of Glossy Ibis busily feeding in the agricultural zone
