The Ebro Delta Experience tour is our mid length option where we will concentrate predominantly on birding in the Ebro Delta natural park, but also take a day trip into the mountains with a visit to Mas de Bunyol (Vulture observatory) and an afternoon in Els Ports looking for some of the mountain species.
You will be collected from Barcelona El Prat International Airport by one of our team and transferred to your accommodation, our private Villa situated in the countryside just outside L'Ampolla on the edge of the Ebro Delta. The remainder of the day will be at leisure, in the evening you can dine out in the Mediterranean harbour resort of L'Ampolla or self cater at the villa, according to your preference.
Following breakfast you will head out on a full day guided birding tour of the southern section of the Ebro Delta with Al Henderson. We will be visiting all of the best bird watching sites to the south of the river, which will include some of the well known areas as well as some hidden gems. Areas of the Delta which will be visited will include Isla de Buda, Riet Vell bird observatory, La Tancada salt marshes, El Trabucador sand spit and also the huge reed-beds and open water lake of L'Encanyissada.
Lunch will be either a Packed Lunch, or alternatively a stop off at a local restaurant - according to the clients preference.
Morning will be at leisure, although there are some great birds to be found close to your accommodation in the olive groves for those requiring an extra birding 'fix'. The boat tour will begin after lunchtime when you head out with Al on a private 18ft Carolina Skiff, launching at Amposta. We will be slowly making our way down the river, observing many birds such as herons, bitterns, egrets, warblers, terns and raptors from close quarters. The tour concludes with an Ebro sunset and the spectacle of hundreds of birds returning to their roost on Isla de Sapinya in the heart of the Ebro Delta.
Following breakfast we make an early start and head to Valderobres in the Els Ports natural park. Here we will meet Jose Ramon (the Vulture man!), who will take us to his excellent observatory where we will witness the feeding of many hundreds of Griffon Vultures, with the possibility for Egyptian Vulture too (summer months). After witnessing this unforgettable spectacle, we will then be working our way back towards the Ebro Delta but checking out birding sites in the pine forest belt, as well as some rocky mountain slopes on the way.
Once again lunch is a choice between a Packed Lunch option or a Restaurant stop off.
The final bird tour of the Ebro Delta Experience is a guided tour of the Northern section of the Delta, where we will again be visiting a mixture of habitats in search of the best bird life on offer. Areas that we will be visiting will include Lo Golero marshes and Badia del Fangar, riverbank habitat on the northern bank of the Ebro, Riumar and also the El Garxal lagoon at the mouth of the Ebro.
Lunch is a choice of Packed Lunch or Restaurant stop off.
One of the team will return you to Barcelona airport in time for your return flight home.
