Lisbon Dolphin Watching Day Trip, Portugal
A half-day Dolphin Watching Lisbon trip in Portugal to experience the wildlife. Our focus is to observe dolphins, whales birds on this trip.
Hi, I'm Sid, Captain Sid. I started working with dolphins in 2008, in the south of Portugal, Sagres. Before that, with a great passion for the Ocean, I graduated in Marine Biology and Fisheries and traced my academic and professional steps with enthusiasm. I then engaged in a Marine Biodiversity and Conservation international Masters.
With a vast experience in sea turtle conservation area, fisheries policy, fisheries observer, sailor, cetacean observation and fluent in 5 languages, finally, and together with other partners, we founded SeaEO Tours company. The project provides alternative programmes where our guests are closer to nature departing from an urban environment. Diversifying the demands on boat tours in Lisbon is also part of our objectives.
My sailing experience allied to the marine wildlife interest allowed us to create this unique tour that some consider it a “once in a lifetime” experience in which we will add adventure. During 3 hours, venture with us on an 8,5m RIB, with comfortable and safe conditions.
As a Marine Biologist, I will take you on a marine safari, in which you will get closer to ocean wildlife with a scientific approach. We collect data and collaborate with environmental authorities as well as oceanographic research groups.
A guided tour where you will learn several facts about dolphins and their livelihood near Lisbon. Six dolphin species and two whale species are spotted off Lisbon are seen all year round.
Although we have a 95% sighting success rate every year, we cannot guarantee dolphin sightings. If by any chance you are not successful, the crew may invite you for a second tour depending on availabilities.
SeaEO Tours has been certified by the Portuguese Tourism bureau with the Clean & Safe stamp. We are committed to preventing the Covid-19 outbreak, therefore we will disinfect the boats after each tour, wear face masks, disinfect all passenger's hands and avoid social contact. Safety First!

Starting in Lisbon centre, under the big red majestic bridge, we depart from Doca de Santo Amaro, in the neighbourhood of Alcântara. For the short safety and activity briefing, it is important to arrive a couple of minutes prior. Before leaving the Tagus Estuary through the river mouth, you will sail under the 25th of April bridge. You will see the beautiful monuments in Belem neighbourhood, and head towards the wide Atlantic Ocean and get the best view from the coastline. Depending on the ocean conditions and the know-how of the crew, we will sail closer to Cascais or further down South above the Lisbon submarine Canyon. You will be delighted if we spot dolphins early, meaning that we can find more and different pods in specific locations. After the wildlife marine safari ends, get to know some facts about the Bugio lighthouse, the Tower of Belém and the Discoveries Monument.
Wildlife species expected to see:
Finding cetacean, dolphins and whales is our main objective. We will scan the ocean in the search for wildlife using several techniques, just like a scientist, and you will play an important role in helping us find them. Get to know the different cetacean and seabirds species with an expert Marine Biologist. Experience the adventure of looking for dolphins. You might also encounter other marine species, like sunfish, sharks (hammerhead, blue-sharks), jellyfish (Portuguese-man-o-war or Catosylus tagi medusa), or even sea turtles (loggerhead and Leatherback sea turtles), so close to Lisbon. Common dolphins are the most frequently sighted species, representing over 80 % of our sightings. However, bottlenose dolphins, harbour porpoises, striped dolphins, Killer Whales can be are spotted every year during some days. Risso’s dolphins, Minkes Whales and humpback whales are sighted sometimes, and it is extremely exciting when we do spot them. Off the coastlines, Northern Gannets, Cory’s shearwater, Great Skuas and Seagulls, are often seen feeding close to dolphins and these push fish shoals up to the surface, providing a feeding frenzy. Terns, Cormorants, and other shorebirds are spotted closer to the coastline. Customers will keep seated on comfortable Jockey seats while cruising but will be able to stand up in the boat to enjoy the wildlife encountered, as we sail slowly.
