Australia is one of the world’s top birding destinations with over 800 species including more endemics than any other country. Megapodes and Thornbills; Lyrebirds and Parrots; Grasswrens and Fairy-wrens; Frogmouths and rare raptors; Quail-thrushes and Pittas; migratory waders from the far east; Bowerbirds, Honeyeaters, Monarchs, Finches…. an unforgettable birding Australia experience await. Some of the very best birding sites in the world can be found in Australia, as well as some of the most beautiful and interesting birds. With a vast array of amazing landscapes, good infrastructure and a sense of adventure, it’s no surprise more and more birders explore Australia.

Do you want a few days birding around a work commitment, or are you considering more comprehensive birding Australia tours? We offer professional bird guiding anywhere in Australia through our network of experienced and qualified guides. Whether you are anticipating a day at Birdlife Australia’s Gluepot Reserve, have a stopover in Perth or in Melbourne, a day around Adelaide or a weekend in Sydney, a couple of days in Cairns or a conference in Brisbane, or perhaps a holiday in Hobart, a spare morning in Alice Springs or a tropical escape to Darwin, or even a stopover in Singapore, we can arrange expert bird guiding at competitive rates.

Planning a more comprehensive birding trip in Australia? Longer privately guided trips are also possible and our guiding services will be tailored to your wishes. Our team can plan and organise personalised tours for individuals to large groups and cater for a wide range of nature-based interests including birding, wildlife, botany, butterflies and general nature, as well as nature and bird photography. We will work with you to create the experience you have in mind. Contact us now to discuss your options!

I can’t thank you enough for your exceptional birding tour. I was very impressed by Steve's professionalism as a guide and Bellbird being a well-run company is the other necessary component for success.

We're certainly very happy clients! It was a fantastic trip, with excellent views of all the species we were after and plenty more. We got in touch with Peter only a couple of weeks before the trip and were lucky he could fit us in. We would certainly recommend anyone else to do the same! Thank you so much, Peter.

Why book with Bellbird Birding Tours?

Bellbird Birding Tours has 20 years experience in providing top-quality small-group birding trips throughout Australia and beyond. We offer a wide selection of scheduled tours with regular departures and fully customisable privately guided tours of any duration. We specialise in difficult-to-find bird species and off-the-beaten track locations while not omitting the popular birding areas. We can adjust any scheduled itinerary into a private tour to suit your wish-list and we are also happy to design a custom guided birding tour from scratch for you. Our tours are led by our passionate and experienced professional bird guides and with the help of local experts.

What to bring?

On a custom tour you're allowed to bring whatever you want! Unlike our public tours, on your custom tour there's no need to travel light if you don't want to. Please don't forget your binoculars, camera, mobile phone, chargers, power adaptors if youre an international guest, insect repellent, sunscreen, personal medications, sun hat, water bottle, hand sanitizer. Sturdy footwear recommended. We'll have a high quality spotting scope on board but please feel free to bring your own, or your super-telephoto lenses with tripod, or anything else you think you might need.

Clothing

It depends when & where we're going! To be flexible, we recommend lightweight long pants, t-shirt and long-sleeved shirt, over the top of which you can wear lay-ers that can be taken off as necessary, including a warm jumper and a rain-proof jacket. Neat casual attire for dinners. Be prepared for some coldish mornings in the May-Oct period and warm afternoons in Nov-Mar.

Best time of year

The northern one-third of Australia is subject to a tropical monsoon season generally between Nov-Apr. The months of June-Sept are generally dry and that's when most birders visit those areas. In the south, Sep-Nov is spring and traditionally seen as the best birding season, but many of our birds aren't as season-specific in their breeding needs as their northern hemisphere counterparts, so they can breed any time of year after good rainfall. This is especially true for the outback birds. Nov-Mar can be warm to hot in the interior and Apr-Jun is a good second choice for birding all the non-tropical areas.
