Brown bear (Ursus arctos) is one of the most wanted mammals in Europe. They are big enough, brave, fitted and scarce. Cantabric communities are located where the deepest forests thrive therefore deciduous forests (oak and beech) in the western part of the mountain range hold a shy population of the Cantabric sub-specie. Size and ethology, as well as 90% herbivorous diet, feature these animals that, in addition, hibernate very seldom due to short winters. It is an iconic specie and has played quite important roles on humans imagination. Here in Asturias is considered part of our history and a hallmark of these lands.

Bears behave in many ways depending on the season. July is too warm to spot them but rest of the year can be seen mainly feeding but mating and socializing too. It is always specially emotive meet new cubs every spring and dream and wishes all of them to survive. On the other hand, released young bears are the first ones to be in trouble. Same season but a different life.
