Iberian Lynx and Birds Day Trip in Southern Spain

This 1-day Birding & Iberian Lynx Day Trip in Doñana is available daily. These Lynx day trips are conducted at a leisurely pace and in small groups - maximum eight people - to give you a good experience with minimal disturbance to the wildlife.

Doñana National Park and the area around it is one of the places in Europe where we can still appreciate nature in its wildest state. This includes the elusive and highly endangered Iberian Lynx that this day trip hopes to find. Your expert guide knows all the signs to look out for and the places where this beautiful cat makes its home. The Iberian Lynx that inhabit the Doñana area are part of the lowest-lying population in Spain, living as they do on the plains rather than in the mountains.

"We booked a guided trip with Sergio and it was a wonderful experience. Sergio is extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife of the area and he is friendly and always ready to share his knowledge... He was willing to persevere and work long hours to ensure that we were able to see a lynx. We enjoyed spending time with him and we would definitely recommend him as a guide." - Mike and Gilly Murray

Due to its unique geographical location between two continents and its proximity to the meeting place of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean at the Straits of Gibraltar, Doñana is a collecting point for many European and African species. You can see more than 300 different birds throughout the year, residents being augmented by migrants in the spring and autumn. Doñana is a transit point, a breeding and wintering spot for thousands of wetland birds and regular habitat for the avian life of Mediterranean forests. In this amazing environment waterfowl from all over Western Europe rest, with countless species to be found in the marshes and surroundings of the national park.

In addition to our winged friends, the purpose of this Iberian Lynx day trip is, of course, to track and hopefully be able to see and photograph this most threatened feline on the planet. Doñana is part of a captive breeding programme to reintroduce and ensure the survival of the Lynx.

Birding & Iberian Lynx Day Trip in Doñana highlights include:

  • A visit to one of the largest wetland complexes in western Europe
  • Tracking the iconic Iberian Lynx with a guide who is an expert on the behaviour and habits of the elusive cat
  • Bird migration between Europe and Africa in spring and autumn

We booked a four-day guided trip with Sergio and it was a wonderful experience. Sergio is extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife of the area and he is friendly and always ready to share his knowledge. He was really keen to ensure that we saw as many birds as possible and he is so conscientious that he was willing to persevere and work long hours to ensure that we were able to see a lynx. We enjoyed spending time with him and we would definitely recommend him as a guide. Thanks for a great trip!
