Alpine Birds in the Picos de Europe National Park

This Alpine Birds of Asturias Full Day Trip is a guided tour designed to spot our local alpine birds. This trip is available on request and is an easy-paced experience that takes place in Picos de Europa National Park. The aim of this birding day in Asturias is to get to know the role alpine birds play in several local habitats - ie, scavengers, birds of prey, frugivores, insectivores.

This birding Asturias tour places you amongst the majestic mountains and rock formations of Picos de Europa National Park, established in Spain in 1918. Our experienced local guides will take you to the best locations for bird spotting. We will walk across massive limestone outcrops, along the screes and by the rock walls to search out the wide variety of birds that reside in these mountains.

Walks are moderately demanding, but only consist of walking, not hiking or trekking, and we will take a cable car in order to access the higher areas comfortably. If you have any concerns about fitness or ability to negotiate certain terrains, talk to us and we can plan your trip accordingly.

In Asturias, we can spot over 70% of all the Iberian peninsula bird species, including migratory and non-migratory birds. However, the alpine birds we will show you are pure locals. Although some of them move down to the valleys when the winter comes they still belong to these mountains where spend all their lives.

Apart from birding this region of Asturias, we will also hope to sample some of the local produce, including some delicious alpine cheese!

Alpine Birds of Asturias Full Day Trip highlights include:

  • Spotting alpine birds such as Wallcreeper, Alpine Accentor, White-winged Snow Finch, Yellow-billed Chough and Lammergeier
