Doñana National Park Bird Ringing Trip
This one-day Bird Ringing trip will take you to Doñana, which is one of the paradises for birds in Europe.
Located to the south-west of the Iberian Peninsula, a few kms from the Strait of Gibraltar, with a warm climate all year round and with good places of food, rest and reproduction; makes this place one of the most important enclaves in Europe continent for birds.
More than 600,000 birds arrive from North and Central Europe to spend the winter and some 40,000 couples arrive from the African continent, in addition to the resident birds that live there all their lives.
Since the beginning of the last century, there have been countless expeditions of ornithologists who have arrived in Doñana from other countries, with the intention of researching and studying birds, as many of them were endemic to this place or endangered.
Since the 1950s of the last century, population controls and the ringing of thousands of birds have been carried out every year, with the aim of knowing their migratory movements, their ecological needs and to be able to design recovery plans for some species whose situation is threatening; so the ringing of birds is still considered as an important tool for their Conservation.
From Living Doñana, we invite you to participate in one of these bird ringing days, by the hand of scientific experts from the Doñana Biological Station (E.B.D.) and to enjoy knowing our species, their conservation programs and the future that holds them. This will be a great hands-on experience that will allow you to identify those species and sub-species that you have never seen in an incomparable natural environment.
