This leisurely paced 9-day Guatemala Bird & Wildlife Photography trip is available on request and encompasses both the Lowlands and Highlands of the country. There's the possibility of seeing and photographing up to 200 bird species, as well as a variety of Guatemala's primates, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.

The habitat during this bird photography in Guatemala tour varies from Tropical Dry, Montane Evergreen and Pine-Oak Forests, home to the Scarlet Macaw, Agami Heron, Pheasant Cuckoo, Tody Motmot and Laughing Falcons. There's also the opportunity to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Tikal, with its towering pyramid temples and a favoured habitat of the Ocellated Turkey, Orange-breasted Falcon and Red-capped Manakin.

We also visit the Las Guacamayas Biological Station at Laguna del Tigre in Peten, which does important conservation work for the surrounding wildlife, including the Scarlet Macaw and many wild monkeys, as well as big cats like the ocelot, jaguar, data and puma.  

In the Highlands of Guatemala, you will have the opportunity not only for bird and wildlife photography but also for shots of spectacular landscapes like the Atitlan lake and historic areas in the colonial city of Antigua. We also tour the Los Tarrales coffee plantation in the foothills of the Atitlan volcano, where you will be able to take pictures of Long-Tailed Manakins, Motmots, Chachalacas and the Resplendent Quetzal, Guatemala's national bird.

Day 1
Day 1 - Guatemala

Arrive Guatemala City at the La Aurora International Airport. Meet and Greet by your professional guide photographer and check in into your afternoon Domestic flight to FLores, Peten. Transfer to Tikal. Accommodations and dinner at Tikal.

Day 2
Day 2 - Tikal, Peten - Biological Station Las Guacamayas

Sunrise and morning at Tikal

After lunch transfer to Las Guacamayas Biological Station, lunch on the Way and birding along the road to get to Paso Caballos.It takes about 3 hours to get to the Estación Biológica Las Guacamayas, using a 4-WD vehicle on dirt road to the village Paso Caballo, and from there a boat on the SAC LUC Rive. Boat to the lodge Las Guacamayas.

Day 3
Day 3 - Biological Station Las Guacamayas

Today the photography session will be on the boat along the rivers os Sac Luc and San Pedro. Wildlife can be seen in the shores.

Afternoon photography reptiles, insects and wildlife.

Day 4
Day 4 - Las Guacamayas - Flores, Peten - Guatemala

Today the photography session will be at the lodge terrace where you will get plenty of birds to photograph specially the Hummingbirds of the area. After lunch, we will drive to the International Airport of Mundo Maya to transfer to Guatemala City. Dinner and Accommodations.

Day 5
Day 5 - Guatemala city - Los Tarrales

The day will start early to get out of the city and arrive at a best time at the Natural reserve Los Tarrales. Photos of Birds in the premises near the lagoon.

Day 6
Day 6 - Natural Reserve Los Tarrales - Lake Atitlan - Natural Reserve Los Tarrales

After an early breakfast transfer to Lake Atitlan and visit the Municipal Park of Rey Tepepul at Sololá and take many pictures of the birds and scenery you will encounter. Lunch at Hotel Bambu and afternoon transfer to Los Tarrales again to do some owling.

Day 7
Day 7 - Natural Reserve Los Tarrales - Antigua

Morning breakfast at Los Tarrales and look for birds that will be easy to photograph. In the afternoon transfer to Antigua the colonial city that does not have to be left aside for its incredible history and the colonial landscape.

Day 8
Day 8 - Antigua

Antigua walking is the best to do many photos of the incredible colonial city. You will go over the famous arch that distinguish the city and the many different aspects to do beautiful photos of crafts and the village itself.

Day 9
Day 9 - Antigua - Guatemala City - Home

At a convenient time transfer to the La Aurora International Airport.

Wildlife species expected to see:

Other birds include Ornate Hawk-Eagle, Black-collared Hawks,  Swallow-tailed Kites, King Vulture, Broad-winged Hawk,Crane Hawk Although this is the habitat for the Scarlet Macaw you can find species like Agami heron and many more. On  trails, you may find the Pheasant Cuckoo, Tody motmot, trogons, toucans and Blue-Crowned or maybe the four species of tinamou—Great, Little, Slaty-breasted and Thicket—. Parrots can be found flying in flocks like the with flocks Red-lored, White-fronted, White-crowned and the, Mealy parrots. Keel-billed Toucans, Montezuma Oropendolas, Laughing Falcons or maybe a White Hawk soaring overhead. The unique Ocellated Turkey, one of the most fantastically plumaged American birds, is common here.
