The Dead Rope Plant

The dead rope plant, known as Ayahuasca (or the link between the world of the alive and the world of the dead people), has been used for centuries by aboriginals of Peruvian amazon. Used with the clear objective of healing the body and the spirit of people in pain, that is also looking for a balance in their lives. The ceremony takes you to an astral journey to find yourself with the aid of the Ayahuasca master plant. It also helps to discover any physical illness you may be unaware of.

The ceremony that is performed at night initiates with the songs of the Shaman, the ones that are known as ICAROS, this song will make you plunge into a deeply spiritual place. Then, during three hours in average time, you will also experience physical conditions that will manifest as vomiting or an upset stomach, in addition to hallucinations.

This tour will also take you to the Tres Chimbadas Lake, to watch a family of Giant River Otters, several bird species such as the rare Hoatzin or Stinky bird, the Hornet screamer, the Cocoi Heron, the olive Cormorans or Puma Heron, flycatchers, Black Cayman among others, there also the chance to spot black Caymans. Jungle hikes on the most comprehensive trail system in the amazon with more than 24 Km of different paths to explore the richness of this pristine forest.

An interesting visit to a local plantation with crops such as the white cacao, maize, wild cacao or macambo, bananas, papaya trees, noni, cocona, and others will amaze you with the way they get cultivated with the help of very few people, you will also be able to taste some of them. Day 1
Day 1 - Arrival

Guests are received at the airport and taken to the office before continuing by bus to the port in the Native Community of Infierno, where we board a boat to embark upon the hour and a half journey upriver, to Explorer’s Inn Tambopata Ecolodge.

During the journey we will have a boxed lunch, and be able to see caimans, turtles, aquatic birds, capybara and other native wildlife. Upon arrival at Explorer’s Inn Tambopata Ecolodge, we will be received with a welcome drink.

After a short rest we will go on a short nightwalk to observe some of the nocturnal animal species of the rainforest.

Upon our return we will have dinner accompanied by our guide and a Resident Naturalist (RN), who is at our disposition to answer any questions about the Amazonian wildlife and the Tambopata National Reserve.

Day 2
Day 2 - Cocococha Lake

In order to see endangered Giant River Otters, we must wake very early and set off with our guide, on the 5 ½ km walk to Cocococha Lake. On the way we have the opportunity to see exotic plants and insects, multicolored butterflies and birds, monkeys and with some luck, perhaps even some of the larger terrestrial mammals.

Arriving to the lake, and hidden in a blind, we wait for the Giant River Otters to appear so that we may observe them. During the wait we will enjoy a snack.

We also have canoes that we can use for short rides on the lake, so that we may observe the rich and varied wildlife on its banks.

On our return to Explorer’s Inn Tambopata Ecolodge, we will have a light lunch, perhaps a little late. We then have a couple of hours in order to prepare ourselves for the Ayahuasca ceremony, before we meet with the Shaman who will lead us.

This is the best moment to look for answers to our questions, and resolve our restlessness.

At night we will not eat, but prepare for the start of the Ayahuasca ritual, which is a hallucinogenic drink, lasting approximately 3 to 5 hours.

Day 3
Day 3 - Ayahuasca experiences

After breakfast we will meet again with our Shaman and share with him any of your Ayahuasca experiences of the night which you would like to discuss, so that he may give explanations and enlighten us on any questions concerning the ceremony.

During the remainder of the morning we will visit a local farm close to the lodge, which belongs to a member of the local community. This gives us the opportunity to see and try various natural products of the area.

After returning to the lodge we have lunch and in the afternoon there is the option of either resting, or visiting the tower. Our tower is 42 meters high, allowing us a spectacular view of the reserve. From here we can take a walk to Sunset Point, in time to see the unforgettable view of the sun setting over the jungle.

Before dinner we will embark on a boat for a short trip to look for caiman on the banks of the river, using spotlight. Upon returning we will enjoy dinner in the company of our guide and a Resident Naturalist.
