There are many species of bears in the world and even more places where you can go bear watching. A great selection of bear watching holidays can be found here on Blue Sky Wildlife. Brown bears, for instance, are the most widespread of bear species and inhabit three continents. In Europe, bear watching holidays run in Spain, Sweden, Finland, Greece, and the Carpathian and Dinarides mountain ranges of eastern Europe, particularly Romania and Slovenia. The best time to see bears in Europe is between spring and autumn when you have most daylight and therefore maximum time to observe them. However, many wildlife photographers prefer going in winter because of the clear light and contrast afforded by the snow. The European Brown Bears’ ursine cousins, known in North America as Grizzlies, live in the Rocky Mountains of the US, national parks such as Yellowstone, and Canada’s British Columbia. Between June and October is the best time to see bears in North America, including the Kodiak, the largest subspecies of Brown Bear, which can be seen on a bear holiday to Alaska. In Asia, Brown Bears can be found in eastern Russia. In other parts of the continent, such as Cambodia and Vietnam, you can encounter Sun Bears and, in China, Moon Bears. In India and Sri Lanka you find Sloth Bears. If your plans include visiting South America, your bear encounters will be with the Spectacled Bear. Although they are elusive, these animals can be found if you go bears watching in Peru, and they also live in Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia.
There are tour operators listed on Blue Sky Wildlife with the expertise to offer you the chance to see anyone of these species.
