Buffy Helmetcrest
This endemic hummingbird has a very restricted distribution, on Nevado del Ruiz in the Central Andes of Colombia, where it occupies the páramo. Visits Espeletia flowers and insects on the ground. Much smaller than the other helmetcrests, and the most frequently seen of the three.
Rufous-fronted Parakeet
The endangered Rufous-fronted Parakeet is restricted in range to the Central Andes of Colombia and is found in semi-humid and humid montane scrub and elfin forest on the borders of páramo and agricultural areas. These parrots prefer to feed on the ground, where they forage for grass seeds, seeds of frailejones and flowers. Endemic to Colombia, its natural habitats are high-altitude shrubland, high-altitude grassland and arable land.
Grey-breasted Mountain-Toucan
The charismatic bird is found at high elevation in the Andean forests in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Usually in pairs at fruiting trees.
Masked Saltator
Currently treated as Near Threatened, Rare and local in humid upper subtropical and temperate forest and edge in the central Andes. Occasionally with mixed flocks, but generally a difficult, unpredictable and unobtrusive bird.
Blue-throated Starfrontlet
This large near endemic hummingbird is usually solitary, but they often forage near mixed species flocks as they visit scattered low flowers. They are inhabitants of cloud and dwarf forests, shrubby slopes, and hedges and gardens near houses.
Sword-billed Hummingbird
Local in humid temperate forest edge, gardens with right plants, usually staying fairly high. Visits Passiflora, Fuschia and Datura. Also pursues insects in flight.
Coppery-bellied Puffleg
Fairly common in open scrubby valleys, slops, temperate forest and borders of northern end of eastern Andes. Visits low flowers and sallies for insects.
Brown-banded Antpitta
This endemic is found in the Central Andes of Colombia at elevations between 1800 and 3140 m, often in the thick undergrowth of younger forest. May occasionally venture into the open in early morning or dusk.
Spectacled Whitestart
This colourful warbler of montane forest in the Andes is found within 2000m and 3300 m from southern Colombia to Bolivia, Forage actively and conspicuously with mixed flocks.
Velvet-purple Coronet
The Velvet-purple Coronet is a near endemic bird locally common in very humid upper foothill and subtropical forest and edge of the pacific slops of western cordillera.

    A wonderfully well organised tour, as smooth as clockwork from beginning to end. Excellent itinerary, supper guides, and good accommodation/food etc, at a very reasonable price for a specialist tour.We opted for some cultural activities too, which dove-tailed neatly into our program Excellent all round
