Kolibri Expeditions, based in Lima, Peru and operating since 1998, has provided birding and wildlife eco-tours throughout Latin America for 20 years. Kolibri Expeditions also offers selected tours to birding hotspots around the world, most notably Asia and Africa.
Kolibri Expeditions takes pride in training our local guides specialising in a passion and knowledge of South American birds especially those that are hard to find. Our expert guides recognise most bird calls heard, particularly those in the tropics where this skill is essential. We will share with you our unique insights into Peru, including its birds, wildlife, nature, communities with their world famous cuisines and culture.
Kolibri Expeditions offer a variety of birding tours including the very popular 5 day Getaways for the busy professional, and Lima Days short 1-2 day tours planned around your stopover in the Peruvian capital.
Also, moderate birding, extreme birding, bird photography and videography, butterflies and insects, hiking, trekking, nature, and cultural expeditions. We also pioneered the Peruvian pelagic tours back in 2000 and have the longest track record of pelagic expeditions in Peru. Special rare species of the Humboldt Current such as Hornby’s and Markham’s Storm-Petrels, Peruvian Diving-Petrel and a variety of Albatross species can be seen on their trips.
Itineraries are arranged to suit all budgets, including choices of accommodation, from comfortable lodging in rural areas to upmarket hotels. Also, the type and length of the tours are fully customisable.

Kolibri Expeditions has for many years been committed to being “single use plastic” free, providing filtered water in the field as well as reusable food containers and utensils. We also, whenever and wherever possible, will give preference to our partners in the hospitality industry who provide alternatives to single-use plastic products; and actively encourage local communities to work towards a plastic-free lifestyle.
Kolibri Expeditions trains local community members as guides and conservation specialists. This is especially important in areas where deforestation is rampant and the need for conservation to promote tourism as a viable alternative to unsustainable logging and coca production. We are the lead partner in the Satipo Road/Carpish community initiative.
Kolibri Expeditions also provide financial and logistical support towards the conservation of the critically endangered Junin Grebe.
