Bar-crested Antshrike
Fairly common in scrub and secondary growth in the western and eastern Andes of Colombia and the Perijá Mountains on the border of Colombia and Venezuela. Like other members of the genus Thamnophilus, the presence of the Bar-crested Antshrike often is revealed first by its loud, accelerating call.
Indigo-capped Hummingbird
This Colombian endemic lives in open woodlands, borders of subtropical wet forests, shrubby clearings, dry open habitats, gardens, and cultivated areas in the foothills and lower highlands. Although typically found at 1000-2000 meters, these hummingbirds sometimes venture lower during the breeding season. Both sexes have a vibrant blue crown and a bronzy rump.
Colombian Chachalaca
Endemic to Colombia, and the only chachalaca within its now relatively limited range in the (Cauca and Magdalena) central valleys of the country. It is found in both humid and deciduous forests, up to 2000 m, but the geographic range and population of this species both are almost certainly declining.
Northern Screamer
The Northern Screamer is confined to the marshy lowlands of northern Colombia and extreme northwestern Venezuela. Generally observed singly, in pairs, or in small groups perched on bushes or trees within a marsh or forested swamp.
Beautiful Woodpecker
This Endemic is confined to north-central Colombia in the Magdalena Valley, where it replaces the Black-cheeked Woodpecker (Melanerpes pucherani) in drier areas of woodland, and it has been recorded at altitudes between 400 and 1500 m.
Bicolored Antpitta
It is a globally threatened species, Endemic to Colombian Central Andes humid montane forest and second growth at 1900–3150 m. Considered Vulnerable, as with so many members of the Grallariidae, most aspects of the biology of Bicolored Antpitta remain poorly studied.
Red-bellied Grackle
Is a distinctive rare blackbird of cloud forest endemic to the Colombian Andes. While it has been recorded from all three ranges of the Andes in Colombia, contemporary localities are few.
Velvet-purple Coronet
A particularly beautiful large hummingbird of humid forest along the pacific slope of the Andes in northwest Ecuador and southwest Colombia. This species is attracted to hummingbird feeders, but can also be seen foraging on flowers at or near the canopy of the primary forest, tall secondary forest, and forest edges.
Munchique Wood-Wren
This Colombian songbird is endemic to a tiny patch of cordillera in the western part of the country. The species was only discovered in 2008, and due to survey detections, less than 300 pairs are estimated to live in the species’ short cloud forest habitat between 2250 and 2640 meters.
Violet-tailed Sylph
Although formerly considered a race of Long-tailed Sylph (Aglaiocercus kingi), the morphology, behavior, range, and altitudinal distribution of Violet-tailed Sylph classify it as its own species.

Very well planned and organized. The guide from Jaguarundi Travel took us through high cold mountain paramo and hot moist green jungle, assisted by local guides. All guides knew their turf. Birds, plants, reptiles and frogs. They were skilled and able to spot and point out the highlights in excellent English. I hope to come back to Columbia and will most certainly use Jaguarundi Travel if I do.

The choice of hotels, itinerary, a tours was ideal. The eco-lodge on the Pacific, the travels in the coffee country, and the adventure on horseback were the perfect combination. Everything was perfectly organized and the guides were friendly and experienced. We can't wait to take another trip with you and explore more of Colombia.

Jaguarundi Travel was an excellent choice organizing 2 expeditions (2012 and 2017) to the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy. in Colombia. Good organized, excellent food and consideration for elderly scientists walking around the high Cocuy range. Here with a strong recommendation. Antoine

Rene and his team are just terrific! From the upfront in-depth personal planning process to the care taken in the implementation of our trip on a daily basis was a big WOW:)! Rene takes his work very personally to ensure that we are taken care of in terms of the quality and range of the experiences. We developed a terrific itinerary that exceeded our expectations. From the ocean to the mountains -- eco lodges helping to release turtles into the sea; horseback riding in the mountains; and a beautiful art-driven bed and breakfast where we spent New Year's Eve -- everything and one was memorable and special! I strongly recommend working with Rene for a unique travel experience where you really do go off the beaten track and are not just having a tourist experience but will meet the people of Colombia, SA and see the country in ways that touch one's heart.
