Rene Montero Serrano
René Montero, CEO and founder of Jaguarundi Travel, began to explore Colombia when he was a child. He had a keen interest in learning about his country’s many cultures as well as its biological and geographical richness. Montero studied ecology and has done studies on use and management of natural resources within some Colombian hunting communities. Passionate on Photography of Mammals, birds and orchids, he has organized and guided journeys and nature expeditions for private researchers, universities, NGOs, and travelers for more than 12 years in the Colombian territory.
Jose Fernando Castaño
The discovery of a new population of the Yellow-eared Parrot in the west andes in 2000 and later, his work in the conservation of this species, was the mainspring for José to be involved in the conservation and study of the birds and nature, being part in the creation of Fundación Proaves and assisting different conservation actions both for governmental and NGO´s. Since 2008 José is a bird guide in Colombia, finding the best way to share his knowledge and skills in the field.
Juan Miguel Ruiz
Colombian Biologist and Masters of the National Institute of Amazonian Research in Manaus, Brazil. He has been working as an Ornithologist for 18 years and has extensive experience in projects related to bird conservation. He has worked as an associate researcher at different NGOs and Ornithological associations. He has been linked to Jaguarundi Travel for five years and has 10 years of experience in birdwatching tourism in different regions of the country.
Juan Sebastián Moreno is a field biologist with special interests to study the native flora in different ecosystems in Colombia. As a student, he developed his skills as a nature photographer and this led him to become aware of the complexities of the orchid family and its taxonomy, which now is his biggest passion. He has been in many parts of Colombia looking for all kind of orchids but especially in the genera of Epidendrum, Lepanthes, Pleurothallis (broad sense) and some terrestrial genera. As a Colombian, Sebastián knows perfectly his way around the country and is the guy that makes sure all the logistics work and those orchid lovers coming with him have a wonderful time.
