Morelet's Tree Frog
The Morelet's Tree Frog is also known as the Black-eyed Leaf Frog. It is found in moist, subtropical lowland rainforests and wetlands, where its lime-green body, orange underbelly and jet-black eyes make it a striking sight.
Limpkin
The Limpkin lives in wetlands and resembles a giant rail, heron or ibis. Its bill is bent and twisted to enable it to eat snails from their shells.
White-tailed Deer
The White-tailed Deer is the smallest of the deer family across the American continent. It has a reddish-brown coat and white throat, belly and under-tail. The males grow antlers.
Silver Fox
Although it is the same species as the red fox, the Silver Fox has silver and black fur, with golden yellow eyes. They are mostly solitary animals and territorial, including their feeding caches of fresh-killed meat, carrion and plants.
Jaguar
The Jaguar is the largest cat on the American continent and is a prominent figure in Mayan mythology. It has a spotted coat (rosettes) with black dots. Black jaguars are not uncommon, but can be difficult to see. They enjoy water and are very good swimmers.
American Pygmy Kingfisher
The American Pygmy Kingfisher is the smallest of the kingfishers in the Americas. They perch in low branches close to water, where they prey on small fish and toads. Their oily green back and rufous underparts make for a beautiful combination of colours.
White-bellied Chachalaca
The White-bellied Chachalaca is endemic to the region. It has warm brown upper plumage, with a greyish-brown head and white belly, vent and under tail coverts.
Agami Heron
The silver-coloured chest and long bill are unique features of the Agami Heron. It can sometimes be found near streams and quiet rivers on the Guatemalan Caribbean Slope, but it is highly secretive and rarely encountered.
Vermiculated Screech-Owl
Fairly common on the Caribbean Slope in a variety of habitat types, from humid to semiarid evergreen and semi-deciduous forests or dense, scrubby woodlands. It has a reddish-brown face bordered with black, with yellow eyes and a greenish beak.
Ocellated Turkey
The elusive Ocellated Turkey is endemic to the Yucatan Peninsula, living near near dense forests or scrubby woodland, usually in small groups. It has metallic blue-black plumage, with feathers tipped blue-green or golden and subterminal black bars.

The mission of Guatemala Nature Tours is conservation. It has been demonstrated that by redeveloping land deteriorated by agriculture and other industries for nature photography and sustainable tourism that it can be transformed into important areas of nesting and habitats for many species of birds and wildlife.

We are constantly working on projects for land protection, supporting local communities by making them our technical partners in ensuring these sites are protected and monitored. To conserve and increase the biodiversity of the region, we also help our guests to observe the best ethical standards and follow good practices while exploring Guatemala’s unique natural environment.

Dear Bitty No matter what Jesse Says, I think you're awesome. In all seriousness, you are one of the main reasons I look forward to returning to Guatemala again and again. Certainly the birds are wonderful, the scenery is beautiful and the culture amazing but knowing that you're there to smooth over the ocasional rough spot is an incredible comfort. You let everyone else relax and have fun and that is perhaps the highest compliment I can give you. Thank you for welcome us to your home and to your country. all the best, Jeff President American Birding Association WWW.ABA.ORG

It seems a far way from those days over 20 years ago when all I knew of Guatemala was Tikal. In this last time a four years attending the Encounters I have become more and more attached to the country and its people. And now Guatemala has found its rightful place once more in the lovings/ Sunbird catalogue. With your help we have enjoyed a wonderful tour sampling the delight of Antigua El Pilar, Rincon Suizo, Los Andes, Lake Atitlan Los Tarrales, and Tikal. Highlights amongst our tally of 272 bird species were Orange breasted falcons, Crested Guans, King Vulture, Great Curassow, Red-capped Manakins and some exiting army-aunt swarms at Tikal, Provosts, Grand Sparrow, Long-tailed Manakins, and Toddy Motmot at los Tarrales, Pink-headed and Red-faced Warblers as Rincon Suizo, Assorted Hummingbirds as El Pilar and motmots, Trogons, Toucans and Orioles everywhere. Guatemala has so much to offer and your Bitty, nd Renato love and secured that we ll leave with happy memories of the country and its warm and friendly people. Thank You Bryan Bland

Guatemala Nature Tours is by far a top-notch, professional organization. My three trips to the country erased any concerns I had. I must say, most of those concerns were made by false stereotypes. Bitty and the rest of the group made my company and I feel extremely safe. Each one of my trips accomplished every single goal we had set out to and in the meantime I was able to enjoy some of the most beautiful sites in the world. The Guatemalans are wonderfully hospitable and kind-hearted and are dedicated to accommodating birders all around the world. The country ranges from lowland tropical rainforest to extraordinary volcanic mountains. I am looking into my fourth visit to the country within the near future and Guatemala Nature Tours will certainly be the first call I make! Mike Freiberg Nikon Optics

Hi Bitty, Thanks so much for your thoughtfulness and expertise with our Guatemala birding trip. You and Renato added a wonderful plus to the tour. The sharing of your home and tasty Thanksgiving dinner was indeed a pleasure. Thanks too for the purchase for me of the peppers and prunes. I will try to reproduce the beautiful gravy with my Christmas turkey. Max and I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Thanks again, Mary Rodel
