Slender-billed Parakeet
Endemic of Chile, easily spotted in Nothofagus forest areas. In march-april feed on the Araucaria seeds. Medium size, in the list of endangered species for Chile.
Moustached Turca
Endemic of Chile, from the sea level to the high Andes, Robust tapaculo, prefers dry areas with presence of shrubs and low vegetation.
Black-throated Huet Huet
Elusive and secretive Tapaculo. Medium-Large size, inhabits the thickness of the bamboo and the undergrowth of the temperate rainforest. Very much heard not very often seen. A challenge for birders and guides.
Giant Hummingbird
The largest Hummingbird on earth. Unmistakable, it usually can be found at high altitudes in its northern area of distribution, but in Chile is often seen from the sea level to 2.000 mts.
Ochre-flanked Tapaculo
An almost endemic of Chile, small tapaculo that inhabits the very dense vegetation with a preference for the Quila chusquea (Bambucacea). Very elusive and tame, terrestrial, a difficult bird to observe.
Chilean Tinamou
Endemic of Chile. Drab-looking bird, scarce and hard to find. Mostly heard. The habitat is usually of semi arid prairies and scrub but it can be also found in cereal fields.
Magellanic Woodpecker
The largest woodpecker of America, found in the southern forests. Endangered species due the destruction of its habitat. Territorial and sometimes hard to find due the low demographic density in their range of distribution.
Diademed Plover
Probably the most mysterious plover on earth. It inhabits puna zones of high andes. Its ecology is still very unknown and last phenotypic studies suggested a relation with Australasian dotterels.
Chucao Tapaculo
Endemic of the temperate rainforest of Chile & Argentina. The most curious tapaculo, so the easier to spot. Very distinctive loud voice. It inhabits the dense temperate rainforests of Chile.
Des Murs Wiretail
Specialty of the temperate rainforest, elusive and territorial. Probably one of the most peculiar ovenbirds of South America.

BirdsChile works very closely with private and public organisations in order to promote nature tourism as a mechanism of conservation in Chile. Our company runs training for local communities and entrepreneurs and works in the restoration and conservation of wetlands in the areas around Lake Llanquihue.

BirdsChile also organises free courses to promote the knowledge of the native species, school contests about biodiversity and we promote best practices for the local communities, for example, the ban of using plastic bags in the commerce of its head quarter town, Puerto Varas.

We did a one day bird tour with BirdsChile mid-April 2018. It was one of the best days of our three week trip in Argentina and Chile. The guide was very knowledgeable about the birds we saw and also about the habitats we visited and Chile in general. A very engaging and hospitable guide. We were staying at Puerto Varas and visited Vincente Perez Rosales NP and other areas, including the ocean nearby. We saw some 1000 year old alerce trees which were great to see. I would definitely do another tour with BirdsChile and recommend them. A great day out!

My husband and I used BirdsChile for a two day birding trip based out of Santiago. One was up in the Andes and the second was near the coast. Both days were filled with birds. Our guide, Rodrigo, was knowledgeable, friendly, and very professional. His English was also quite good. Our driver, Claudia, was also very good. We felt safe and confident with her driving.

I inquired about a Chilean birding experience, with little knowledge of Chile, so I contacted Birds Chile. The coordination and getting me the knowledge I needed to make a dream trip happen, was flawless. I took two days in the Lake District, seeing many birds, and beautiful sites. I then transferred to Patagonia, for a five day tour. We saw great wildlife and birds, the hotels were nice as well as the dining, .I recommend Birds Chile for their knowledge ,friendly attitude, as well as their, helpfulness, and guiding to the beautiful sites of Chile.

We brought a non-profit group of 20 members and guests from the United States to Chile and did visits to both Parque Pumalin and Parque Patagonia - including the long drive on the Carretera Austral from Coyhaique down to Parque Patagonia. Throughout the planning, Birds Chile was responsive, helpful, and understanding. They provided excellent customer service in all of our communications in advance of the trip, and amazing in-person service as well. The drivers and guides were always punctual, knowledgeable, and friendly. Isabel and Marcela (our guides) become like part of our family during our time with them in the national parks. Some of our members arrived early to Puerto Varas and used Birds Chile for smaller birding tours and private hikes, and had amazing experiences. We cannot rave enough about amazing this company is. They truly made Chile feel like home. Supporting this small, family-owned, eco-tourism forward business is worth your time and money if you want to have an amazing trip to Chile.

We did a 2 weeks tour with BirdsChile in 3 locations and 3 guides: Santiago and Valparaiso region, Arica/Putre/Altiplano and Puerto Varas/Chiloe. The 3 guides were very good, we saw a lot of birds and discovered the culture of the country. The organization was nice, with good communication and good choice of hotels. It was a perfect naturalist trip.

Did two really great small-group trips with a highly knowledgable and engaging leader (Filipe). Didn't matter that we are not twitchers and more interested in general natural history. Went to some fantastic places - estuary one day, temperate rainforest the other - and saw lots of birds and plants. Only slight criticism was the amount of sitting in a minibus on one of the days - those in the back couldn't see as much. Highly recommended!

Our bird trips were outstanding. Good choices of tours and we saw a lot of country, birds, animals and plants. Our guide had an excellent knowledge and was very much into conservation. The company was easy to deal with, emails being answered almost immediately. I would really recommend Birds Chile as a company that does its absolute best.
