Straits Wildlife Tour Specialists

Inspired by the wonder of bird migration, Inglorious Bustards offer birding and wildlife-watching adventures across the East Atlantic Flyway, from the Straits of Gibraltar to North Africa, The Gambia and beyond.  Infused with relaxation and fun, their tours are nothing to do with racing around ticking birds and everything to do with enjoying local landscapes, culture and food.

For the Inglorious Bustards, experiencing the powerful event of bird migration has led to a life-long fascination with #FlywayBirding.

No wonder then that they are based in the Straits of Gibraltar. At just 14 km wide, this is the narrowest sea crossing between Europe and Africa, and twice a year over 250,000 migrating raptors choose this point to move between continents, in a breath-taking migratory spectacle.

Located in the rolling coastal  hills of Andalusia just outside the picturesque Spanish town of Tarifa, the Inglorious Bustards are based right at the epicentre of birding in the Straits. And from a migrating raptor’s point of view, they must surely also be at the centre of the world!

Inglorious Bustards Simon and Niki are birders,  conservationists,  travellers and all-round Nature-lovers.  They love not only to marvel at the hundreds of thousands of birds passing overhead, but also to follow them on their migratory journey, and explore the whole range of fascinating and varied terrains they traverse each year.

More than that though, they love to share their adventures with you!  As well as their home-from-home in southern Spain, they take pride in bringing you the best of birding and migration spectacles along the whole East Atlantic Flyway journey, through Europe and North Africa, right down to the steamy wintering grounds of many of our nomads, south of the Sahara.

Their #FlywayBirding tours have nothing to do with racing around ticking birds and everything to do with enjoying landscapes, habitats and cultures and having a good laugh – at a relaxed pace.

If, like them,  you enjoy amazing wildlife spectacles where adventure meets relaxation and fun, then you have found the right place!

Straits of Gibraltar

At only 14 km wide, the Straits of Gibraltar are the narrowest point between Europe and Africa, and twice a year over 250,000 migrating raptors choose this point to cross between continents. This breath-taking migratory spectacle is beyond compare. Add to this the almost continuous east-west movements of thousands of seabirds and cetaceans, and a sparkling array of resident passerines, raptors and wetland birds, and you have an ideal birding destination filled with year-round avian attractions.

Due to extensive conservation background working for the RSPB Inglorious Bustards have amassed useful conservation techniques and approaches. They aim to work with the Migres Foundation in enabling them to get more funds for vital monitoring of migrating birds in the Straits of Gibraltar while also donating a proportion of any profits from certain tours to them.

They are keen supporters of Operation Turtle Dove and support the Dove Step campaign through logistical and financial support.

Inglorious Bustards also work with farmers and land managers to ensure that eco-tourism can support their creation and protection of habitats including the Salarte project conserving the traditional practices of salt extraction by hand which provides important feeding areas for migratory wading birds.

Finally, they also work in collaboration with other service providers to support and grow sustainable eco-tourism that financially rewards and supports conservation activities for example they provide delicious picnics including locally sourced food that provides conservation benefits.
