Birding Extremadura Center offers several birdwatching options ranging from day trips throughout the year upto 8 day birding tours in the heart of Extremadura, which maybe one of the best locations in Europe for bird watching.
Antonio Calvo is the lead guide, a native, passionate about nature and photography. Antonio loves to share his local knowledge in ornithology with people who share the same passion and considers himself very fortunate to live in an environment where ornithology is very easy. Currently working on several bird conservation and natural environment projects for the Government of Extremadura and BirdLife which includes Monitoring and Recovery of Little Bustard, Rescue nests Montagu’s Harriers, tracking productivity of Great Bustard, Atlas of breeding birds of Spain and Monitoring and Recovery of Lesser Kestrel.
Birding Extremadura Center is located in an area of exceptional biodiversity, with several different habitats within a few kilometres of the centre. This allows to Antonio to development sustainable birdwatching Extremadura trips and tours emitting low carbon. Habitats like Dehesa, Steppe, Reservoirs, Wetlands, Rice fields, Olives Fields, can be easily visited driving only a few kilometres or ideally walking or biking to those areas.
El Elanio, Rural House
Antonio and Vega offer you the possibility to enjoy their guesthouse, an old house reformed by them sleeping upto 8 guests. El Elanio, Rural House is located in Natura Network 2000 in a place of great biodiversity, so there are a great number of different habitats and subsequently, a great number of species of plants and animals and especially birds. El Elanio is also located only 20 minutes from Trujillo, 35 minutes from Guadalupe, 40 minutes from Merida and 45 minutes from Caceres.
Photobirds offers the rental of seven different hides located in the heart of Extremadura for the photography of birds. Photobirds is a photography project that combines the tourism of nature photography and the conservation of the natural environment. Therefore, most of their hides are, or will be, linked in some way to the conservation of any of the species to be photographed from them.

Other Extremadura Wildlife
The great biodiversity of Extremadura offers a great number of species of birds, but also of orchids, dragonflies and butterflies. Spring is spectacular, but the rest of the seasons of the year are too.
Birding Extremadura Center works on several programs of bird conservation in its birding patch.
For Extremadura Government, Antonio works in the rescue program of Montegu’s Harriers, which consists of locating nests to prevent the harvesters from destroying them and the census and productivity of Great Bustards and Little Bustards.
For BirdLife International Antonio volunteers for 1) reproductive bird tracking program in Spain, 2) census of Little Bustards, 3) census of Lesser Kestrel and 4) breeding birds atlas.
Besides, through Photobirds projects, they contribute to feed to Necrophagous birds like Red Kite, Black Vulture or Egyptian Vulture. They install too nest-box and they sow legumes to improve Little Bustard status.
